Home / Square fees
DumpYourProcessorSquare fees feel high? They usually are — past a certain size.
Square is a great way to start taking cards: no monthly fee, simple hardware, instant setup. But its simplicity has a price — a flat rate on every single tap and swipe (typically around 2.6% + 10¢ in person and higher online, per Square's published pricing). That flat rate doesn't care that a debit card costs the network a fraction of what a rewards credit card does. You pay the same either way, and Square keeps the difference.
When Square starts costing you real money
Under roughly $5,000/month in card volume, Square is honestly hard to beat. Above it, the math flips. At $20,000/month, a flat 2.6% + 10¢ means roughly $6,500+ per year in processing. On interchange-plus pricing — where you pay the network's actual cost plus a small transparent markup — the same volume often runs meaningfully less, especially if you take a lot of debit cards.
What switching actually looks like
- Keep selling the same day. A modern POS (free, included) replaces the Square reader — items, categories, and reporting come with it.
- No contract. Square doesn't lock you in, and neither do we. No termination fees either direction.
- Transparent pricing. You see the network's cost and our markup separately, on every statement.

Common questions
Is Square ever the right choice?
Yes — for low-volume or seasonal sellers under roughly $5,000/month, Square's flat rate and zero monthly fee are hard to beat, and we'll tell you to stay if that's your situation.
What happens to my Square reporting history?
It stays in your Square account; switching processors doesn't erase past reports. Your new POS starts fresh reporting going forward.
